Open Science Play
Our enrolled members enjoy the added benefit of two (2) free open play periods per week: Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:45pm.
- For children enrolled in 1pm classes, open play really extends their hands-on science time from 75 minutes to 150 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, allowing parents to get an additional hour of reading in while their child is engaged.
- For children under the age of 4, open play involves the child and their caregiver playing with any critical thinking toys or mini-exhibits that we may have in our learning center.
- For children that are 4+, our science teachers are available to engage your child in exploring the questions that they have, no matter how random. A child may ask their questions to our science teachers and we will gladly take them into one of our science labs to explore and discuss how to figure out an answer. It often results in a new science experiment, building complex towers, or using our white boards to draw diagrams to explain the science.
- Open Play is an entirely child-led acticity, even for kids 4+, and it is not a pre-assigned class.
- Traditionally, depending on the age of the child, open play involves about half the allotted time as play and half as child-led question time with one of our teachers.
The paent/caergiver must remain on premises duing the open play period
Parents, who are not actively enrolled in classes, may still take advantage of open play in our front play area by paying a $15 fee to join an open play science time.
